La Quinta Hotel & Suites by Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, which is the largest hotel company in the world and the biggest hotel operator in the Dominican Republic, has announced that its construction is on target to meet a 2024 opening. The hotel will be opened in partnership with Grupo De Valle, which is the exclusive owner of the La Quinta franchise along with other Wyndham brands in the country. The project has already created over 200 direct jobs during its construction phase, and an additional 50 direct jobs will be added upon opening.
La Quinta is the first American branded property to be built in Puerto Plata in over 25; the hotel will feature 115 guest rooms, a lobby bar, a restaurant, co-working and meeting spaces, a well-equipped wellness center, and a pool. It has unmatched integration to Puerto Plata, a growing tourism economy.
This hotel property will be the first to tap into the Puerto Platas North American market, with the advantage of having 110 million Wyndham Rewards members who already trust the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts brand. According to the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism in 2023, North American visitors made up 47% of total visitors, representing a growth in American travelers to the country.
“When I realized that La Quinta had performed exceptionally well with over 100% REVPAR index against its Upper Mid-Scale competition and unlike its competitors, 84% of all reservations are directly booked on Wyndham’s global website. I decided to purchase the franchise for the Dominican Republic. I was confident that we could replicate the success of the business in this new market. The growth of the La Quinta brand has been remarkable, and it plays a significant role in Wyndham’s overall growth strategy,” said Mr. Edward De Valle Chairman and CEO Grupo De Valle.
The project to open a hotel in Puerto Plata was organized by the Dominican Republic’s top law firm, Estrella & Tupete, headed by Mr. Guillermo Estrella, along with partners from ATLAMBER S.A., Inversions Santa Marta, Profusion Group, and Grupo De Valle. These partners are enthusiastic about the hotel’s opening and are delighted to have teamed up with a Wyndham Operator to manage the hotel.

Additionally, Grupo De Valles (VISION 2030) has committed to developing two more properties.
